On the Internet, every site you visit is recorded. There are tools to help block this act, but what does it really mean to be tracked on the Web? And what types of information do companies have about you?

Tools by Disconnect literally “disconnect” you from Facebook, Google and Twitter so that these major sites don’t keep track of your browsing. A new tool called Collusion for Chrome shows users all the websites that secretly track you as you browse the Web. How do these tools work, and what are the advantages to using them? There is a hope that one day, our Web life will be private again.

With the lack of snow fall in Colorado’s ski resorts, perhaps a deal can be found on a sweet piece of resort property?

Or maybe not–at least not at this high end of luxury ski resort homes–the priciest would set you back $35 million and the cheapest still costs well over $1 millon.
These 25 most expensive luxury ski resort homes, care of Realtor.com, are from all over the resort map in Colorado — with fantasy ski homes in Aspen, Vail, Winter Park, Steamboat and more. And these homes feature the luxury and eccentricity that one expects from a multi-million dollar estate like: fine furnishings to film screening rooms to personal indoor shooting ranges (seriously, but for several million, shouldn’t every home come with a shooting range?).

Four Senators want a brief delay on post office closures.

Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Thomas Carper (D-Del.) and Scott Brown (R-Mass.) have asked the Postmaster General not to close any post offices until the House acts, the Washington Post reports.

The U.S. Postal Service was planning on a round of closures in June and August before stopping to ensure that vote-by-mail programs are not affected in the fall election.

The U.S. military is discussing significant changes in its war plans to adhere to President Obama’s new strategic guidance that downplays preparing for conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan, and counts on allies to provide additional troops.

War planning for Iran is now the most pressing scenario, or what the Pentagon calls a contingency.

U.S. Central Command believes it can destroy or significantly degrade Iran’s conventional armed forces in about three weeks using air and sea strikes, according to a defense source familiar with the discussions.

Such strikes are an option in a response to Tehran’s striking U.S. and international ships in the Persian Gulf and attempting to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil is transported.

HP: 41′: George H.W. Bush Documentary, From Producer Jerry Weintraub, Set For HBO Debut

Sunday, April 29th, 2012

Unlike most presidents, George H.W. Bush has not published a memoir since leaving office. That’s about to change, sort of: On June 14 — just two days after Bush celebrates his 88th birthday — the HBO documentary “41″ will debut.
Written and directed by Jeffrey Roth and produced by Jerry Weintraub, “41″ — named as such because Bush was the 41st president — will detail the former president’s Zelig-like personal life. Bush served in World War II, was U.S. envoy to China, the director of the CIA and Vice President of the United States. Still, don’t think “41″ is strictly political.
“This is not a political documentary,” Weintraub told HuffPost Entertainment. “This is a documentary about the man and his family and where he came from. He’s 88 years old on June 12. It’s a great time in his life to do something like this and it’s in his words.”

NYT: Saudis Close Embassy in Egypt

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

By KAREEM FAHIM

Published: April 29, 2012

CAIRO – Saudi Arabia closed its embassy here on Saturday and recalled its ambassador, setting off a diplomatic crisis that seemed to catch Egypt’s military rulers off guard and left them struggling to repair a rift with a financial benefactor and a long-time ally.

The moves came after days of protests outside the embassy and Saudi consulates in Alexandria and Suez over the arrest of an Egyptian lawyer in Saudi Arabia this month. The Saudi news agency, citing an “official source,” said that the recall of the ambassador and the closings were the result of “unjustified demonstrations” and “hostile slogans,” and what the news agency said were attempts to “storm” the embassy.

A proposal to convert the Legislature to part time will not make it on the ballot this year.

The campaign will continue to collect signatures, however, in hopes of placing the issue before voters in 2014, said Ted Costa of People’s Advocate, a co-leader of the drive.

Costa said the petition drive has collected between 200,000 and 300,000 of the 807,615 voter signatures needed to qualify the constitutional amendment for a statewide ballot.

LAST summer, Jared Dangerfield was simply 19, skateboarding the streets of suburban Salt Lake City, plugged into the Jewish reggae singer Matisyahu. He had just wrapped up his year at Utah State University, where there was a girl he liked to make laugh.

Memories of college and family are kept in a photo album his sister gave him when they said goodbye, but it is rarely looked at.
