Bill Postmus
Bill Postmus began his career in public service with a stunning election victory over an entrenched incumbent in the year 2000 when Bill, then just 29 years of age, won the First Supervisorial District seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.
As the elected county supervisor for San Bernardino County’s First Supervisorial District, Bill Postmus represented a constituency of over 400,000 people. A fiscal conservative, Bill Postmus fought for lower taxes and balanced budgets. His term was highlighted by supporting law enforcement efforts to crack down on gang violence and give the voice of cities greater impact at county government. Additionally, Supervisor Postmus worked hard to renew and repair the county’s aging infrastructure and improve roadways throughout his district.
In 2004, voters in Bill Postmus’ district returned the supervisor for a second term with an astonishing 82 percent of the vote.
In 2005, as Bill Postmus began his second term as supervisor, his colleagues unanimously selected him as chair of the board and executive agent of the county. Bill would hold this post for two years. During this period, San Bernardino County initiated new ethics reforms, cracked down on sexual predators and continued to balance budget while attracting new jobs and investment in the region.
After his tenure as board chair concluded, Bill Postmus was elevated to the office of county assessor by the voters of San Bernardino County, again defeating an incumbent, this time besting a 12-year sitting officeholder who had lost trust with area voters. In the role of San Bernardino County Assessor, Bill Postmus is credited with modernizing an important public department while implementing substantial property tax savings to taxpayers.
Always active in civic affairs, Bill Postmus served in many important roles in public policy discourse. From 2004-2007, Bill was the county chair of the San Bernardino County Republican Party and held many leadership titles in various leadership campaigns. One such role was his effort to spearhead passage of Jessica’s law, a tough people’s initiative to crack down on repeat and habitual sex offenders.
Postmus’ tenure as chair of the San Bernardino County Republican Party was marked by record-breaking successes. Chairman Postmus raised over four million dollars for Republican Party causes and candidates. In recognition of young Bill Postmus’ achievements, he was honored to be a key component of President George W. Bush’s Maverick PAC program, an organization open to young professionals under the age of 40 who raise contributions in support of the GOP.
A native southern Californian, Bill is the son of a Los Angeles county deputy sheriff. Prior to his record of serving the public as an elected official, Bill Postmus had the honor of working as a aide to three popular state lawmakers including Assemblywoman Kathleen Honeycutt, where he worked side-by-side with his eventual successor, current San Bernardino County First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt.
Postmus earned his university degree in business management from the University of Redlands in 1997. He is currently a business consultant for multiple projects.
