That youthful smile

Sorry guys that was a total mess. Between a tow truck driver that didn’t know how to get my spare tire out to a Chippie who was jumping all over the tow truck driver, I kept getting interrupted. Hopefully, the post is a little cleaner now.

After telling Mark a few minutes ago that I was in too bad of a mood to write this tonight, I got a flat tire and have an hour’s wait for AAA. So to kill some time, let me tell you all about Mark Kirk’s youthful smile.

Those of you that live in the city of Hesperia probably get the inside joke. For those of you who don’t, I thought I’d take a minute to explain before I write the main post.

A couple of updates

It seems that almost every day someone asks me about either decertification of SBPEA, the meeting with Mark Kirk, and/or the EAC not that any one of those issues has anything to do with the other. This is where we are at.

Decertification cannot take place for a little over a year. There are at least two international unions interested in six of the seven units — I don’t think anyone cares about Supervising Nurses. They are willing to provide the staff, etc., for the campaign. I expect the campaign to take many months as there will have to be several thousand cards signed in a 30-day period when that time comes. Some meetings have already taken place and we’re trying to get more going but no one has had time. We’ll provide the details either on the blog or through word of mouth when the time comes. Ridding ourselves of SBPEA is not a moot issue. As a matter of fact, it is very high on the priority list. (more…)

From the Sun: Supervisors’ chiefs of staff rake in over $227,000

The chiefs of staff for the San Bernardino County supervisors are the nearly invisible counterparts of their elected bosses.

But for the work they do behind the scenes, they garner generous salaries — nearly as high as those of the powerful politicians who appoint them.

There are five supervisors in the county, and each employs a chief of staff.

From the Sun: Kirk loses Hesperia race in spite of war chest

One of my posts below discusses some of my feelings about the local Republican party. Of course Mark Kirk is one of its leaders. And he is one of the few for whom I have respect. One of the many reasons I have respect for Mark is the fact that he ran a clean campaign.

Mike’s reference to a “smear” is laughable. I heard Brad’s radio spot and there was nothing wrong with it. The real “smear” came from the Mike Leonard and Paul Bosacki side via Al Vogler. They ran a very dirty campaign. All one has to do is check out the many lies on Bosacki’s webpage to get just an inkling of how dishonest he is. Campaigns do seem to be easier to win for those with no integrity.

How much money does it take to win a City Council race?

Not as much as some might think.

Mark Kirk - a Republican political operative in San Bernardino County and Supervisor Gary Ovitt’s chief of staff - lost the Hesperia council race Tuesday by nearly 2,000 votes, despite a huge infusion of cash.

“Anytime you have a campaign, no matter how much money you spend, no matter how much work you do, at the end of the day, it’s the voters’ decision,” Kirk said.
