So where do we go from here?

Things will be changing on Monday in San Bernardino County. Supervisor-elect Neil Derry will be sworn in as Third District Supervisor. Gary Ovitt will become Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. I’ve heard various rumors about who will be Vice Chairman and I don’t know what has been decided, although I’m sure by now the backroom deal has been made.

From the Sun: Measure S only a first step in reform

This one is a little late, but I thought it was worth posting anyway.

Our view: San Bernardino County officials will need more than Measure S to address ethical lapses in government.

OK, so San Bernardino County voters overwhelmingly approved Measure S in Tuesday’s election.

No big surprise there. Most people are going to vote for something that says it will “establish a higher standard of ethics for staff members of County elected officials” - especially in a county that has suffered a goodly number of ethical lapses over the years.

We have no beef with the provisions of Measure S. They’re OK as far as they go - it’s just not far enough. So we hope neither county supervisors nor anyone else thinks, “job done, now we’ve assured ethical behavior by county leaders and staffers.”
