A number of tax hikes and budget cuts that the Democrats passed last week using an obscure state constitutional loophole have yet to be signed by the governor.

The stalemate between Republicans and Democrats in the Legislature has led some to wonder whether Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will give in and approve the Democrats’ package or veto it, sending legislators back to the drawing table.

It’s stories like this that make me remain a Republican no matter how much I disagree with the Boys on so many issues.

Assemblyman opposes tax hikes in revised state budget

Assemblyman Anthony Adams, a Republican from Hesperia, voted Thursday against a budget plan that will force California drivers to pay a new 39-cent tax per gallon of gasoline.

Adams claims the budget plan violated taxpayer protections in the state Constitution by imposing $10.8 billion in higher taxes on Californians by a simple majority vote.

Theft from taxpayers

A recent media report revealed that Anthony Adams, Republican assemblyman of Hesperia, is among the more than a dozen lawmakers who have missed much of the special legislative sessions in progress to deal with the state’s fiscal mess. His time is being taken up with trips to India, China and Hawaii, to “learn about education, high-speed rail and dams.” What a bunch of garbage.

Political action committees are formed to raise and spend money on candidates.

They often are created to advance a political agenda or further the interests of businesses or industries.

The PAC in this week’s spotlight is the Committee to Elect Brad Mitzelfelt.

Mitzelfelt represents the 1st District on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. The district includes Hesperia, Adelanto, Victorville, Barstow, Needles and Twentynine Palms.

5th Annual Operation Christmas For Our Troops

It’s that time of year again!

For the third year in a row, our office will be participating in ”Operation Christmas for Our Troops.” Now in its 5th year, this statewide holiday effort collects toys, calling cards, care packages and DVDs for California’s deployed military and their families.

This year, Operation Christmas for Our Troops will kick off at the State Capitol during the first week of December. This bipartisan effort brings representatives from both houses together in support of the military and their families during the holidays.

Beginning in December, our District and Capitol offices will be drop off locations for donations as well as select Wal-Mart locations.
