Riverside County Spay and Neuter Ordinance Update

I’m going to try to attend. If anyone else is going, email me privately. Ya never know. If such an ordinance can pass in Riverside County, maybe there is hope in San Bernardino County.

Thousands of animals per year to be saved under new proposed law

Riverside County needs your help! Their spay and neuter ordinance is almost to the finish line, and will have a final hearing and public comment on Tuesday January 13th. Please consider joining us for this important hearing. If you cannot attend, please call the supervisors and let them know that saving lives and saving money is the right thing to do for Riverside County.

Where: Board of Supervisors, County of Riverside, 4080 Lemon Street Riverside Calif., 1st Floor, County Administrative Center

When: Tuesday, the 13th of January, 2009. The meeting begins at 9 am, please show up early in order to make your voice heard.

Breaking News: Several backyard breeder organizations, including a group with direct ties to the puppy mill and fur industries, are now attempting to confuse the Supervisors with a flood of phone calls and a misinformation campaign. Their goal is to protect underground breeders from any accountability, by convincing our elected officials that the public is opposed to spay and neuter programs. It is essential that, as pet lovers, we help our friends in Riverside reduce the suffering in their shelters. Please call or attend the hearing.

Riverside County supervisors are set to vote Tuesday on a revised ordinance to limit picketing at residences and outside the Church of Scientology’s base in Gilman Hot Springs.

Riverside County is encouraging its thousands of employees to volunteer for unpaid leave under a new furlough policy adopted by supervisors last week.

The policy enables county employees to take scheduled furlough days biweekly or in blocks without affecting their insurance coverage or seniority. In the past, employees on furlough risked reductions to certain benefits and to accrued time off, according to county documents.

Any chance you can get me Riverside BOS email addresses for each district?

From the PE: County spay/neuter rules proposed

I’m sure our short-sighted supervisors in this county would never bother to pass an ordinance such as this, but at least other counties, states, and municipalities are trying to help solve the problem.

I was in Visalia when I received the email about this ordinance asking me to attend the meeting tomorrow. Unfortunately, I cannot do so because of a prior commitment but will attend if it goes to public hearing/second reading. It’s about time we see elected officials do the right thing for a change rather than cowering to special interests such as breeders who make tons of money under the table while responsible taxpayers have to pay to clean up the mess they leave.

Riverside County supervisors plan to introduce an ordinance today to sterilize dogs whose owners let them run amok, roam unlicensed, bite people or otherwise violate state or local laws. The ordinance would also require all adult dogs and cats in the unincorporated county to be implanted with identifying microchips.

From a blogger . . .

The quotes are from a Los Angeles Times article.

“The lost workers and forced furloughs would have an immediate effect on some of the county’s neediest. Officials say many of the affected workers process welfare applications and that people applying for public assistance could expect longer lines and longer waits.”

From the PE: Riverside County offers early retirement packages to employees

08:58 PM PST on Wednesday, November 26, 2008

By JULIA GLICK
The Press-Enterprise

Riverside County is offering incentives for thousands of employees to retire early at the start of next year, a move officials say could save millions of dollars and reduce the need for future layoffs.

The Board of Supervisors approved a plan last week that would boost retirement benefits to retirees 50 and older who have worked five or more years for the county. They must retire between Jan. 1 and March 31 to qualify, according to county documents.

From the PE: Riverside County supervisors OK limits on picketing in residential neighborhoods

The chicken and the clown both need to read this one as both have suggested picketing homes of politicians/officials.

The Press-Enterprise

The Church of Scientology’s concerns about protesters outside their Gilman Hot Springs base led Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone to seek and gain approval Tuesday for county restrictions on picketing in residential neighborhoods.

Only Supervisor Bob Buster voted against the ordinance, which forbids demonstrators from coming within 300 feet of a home they are targeting in unincorporated Riverside County.
