California Democratic Party delegates to be elected
By Sam H. Clauder II

The California Democratic Party will hold biennial elections for state Central Committee members from seven Assembly Districts throughout San Bernardino County on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 10 and 11.

Individual Democrats are elected to become California Democratic Party Central Committee members every two years. Each member is elected to represent their Assembly District for a two-year term.

Twelve candidates, six men and six women, are elected from each Assembly District to become members of the state central committee. The Central Committee of the California Democratic Party meets annually on the last weekend of April and is the general governing body of the state party.

A new slate of officers will be elected to four-year terms at this year’s convention. A new Chair will be elected for the first time since 1996 to replace retiring Chair Art Torres.

Anyone who was registered Democrat for last year’s Presidential election is qualified to attend their local Assembly District meeting and vote. Voters can find their Assembly District on the web at http://gispub.sbcounty.gov/sbcwebs/ROV_DL/search.asp.

  1. I wish this was the option for the state Republican Party. We should have caucuses locally for state delegates instead of people appointing people just because of political patronage or appointing people out of the area. For example someone in Glendale can appoint someone in Riverside for their state Republican central committee appointment.

  2. Sam H. Clauder II Says:

Well, Matt, you could solve your problem merely by re-registering as a Democrat.
It is the party of the people….

  3. Matt, take a look at the Democratic Party Platform on the State Party’s web site — http://www.cadem.org. You might like what you see, and consider re-registering. Also, take a look at our local party website - http://www.sanbernardinodemocrats.org. We have a great Inaugural Day event planned.

  4. In district 36, Maggie-Judith Campbell is the candidate listed after Alvin Campbell.

  5. The 61st district candidate in my party lacked the 35% vote so I was not able to get a state central committee appointment. However, its becoming apparent that I agree more with the blogpen of Calitics.com more than the FlashReport or Red County at times. I may not be a progressive per say, but I would probably be more in line with Larry Walker or Ken White if I did re-register as a Democratic party member.

The state budget crisis has made me take a view that we need some tax increases, but we need to re-organize our state budget in the next fiscal year afterward so we can meet our priorities and keep government stable so California can remain successful.

And Tom Campbell is not likely to win the nomination for Governor of California, maybe switching to vote for Jerry Brown in the primary may be a good idea.
