Grateful for support
Now that most of the remaining votes have been counted, and our nation has celebrated Thanksgiving, it is time to reflect on my wonderful experience as the Democratic nominee in the 41st Congressional District.
I am humbled and inspired by the countless unselfish acts of my campaign volunteers, donors, friends, family and voters. My wife and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We won a spirited primary election amongst four fine candidates, the district’s largest primary on record. While 100,000 votes was not enough to overcome a well-financed, entrenched, 30-year incumbent, it is more than any challenger on record, and it sends a strong message of the importance of principles in our public servants.
The decisive victory of Barack Obama also provides a mandate to clean up Congress and stop wasteful spending. President-elect Obama and the Democratic Congress will lead our great nation to meet the challenges of 2009 and beyond. I am optimistic for our future and grateful for all of your support and dedication.

A good choice
I just want to comment on the appointment of Dennis Draeger to assistant county assessor. I used to work with Mr. Draeger in the tax office and just want to let people know that he is a man of integrity and honesty.
I do not know Bill Postmus, but this shows he has some intelligence if he has chosen Mr. Draeger to be his assistant. I just wish Mr. Draeger could be put in as assessor instead of just the assistant. He knows the job, is a hard worker and is a great morale booster to the employees under his supervision.
Mr. Draeger had worked in the Assessor’s Office, as the chief appraiser, for years and then transferred to the Tax Collector’s Office as the assistant tax collector, and has done a great job there.
If the county had more supervisors like him, perhaps there would not be all the scandals that have plagued our county.
Congratulations, Dennis!

Warren should worry
Fontana City Councilwoman Acquanetta Warren was recently quoted in The Sun calling Congressman Joe Baca an embarrassment and claiming no one in the district has any respect for Baca. (”Warren hints at Congress,” by Josh Dulaney, Nov. 12).
Warren seems to have confused her own bathroom mirror reflection with our esteemed congressman. Just last month, during Warren’s campaign for re-election, she was a spokesperson for the Chaffey Republican Women Federated, a Rancho Cucamonga club which promoted racist images of President-elect Barack Obama. Warren defended and championed the organization after they pasted Obama’s face on a donkey, and added watermelon, fried chicken, ribs and Kool-aid to a $10 bill of food stamps.
What greater embarrassment and hypocrisy could there be than for Warren, an African-American woman, to promote racism against an African-American president-elect merely because she is a Republican and he is a Democrat?
Warren, not Baca, is the one who is an embarrassment to all Inland Empire residents. She is the one who has no respect in the district. Since Fontana has a greater-than-ever majority of Democrats, Warren should be worried about being re-elected to the City Council rather than thinking she could win a higher office.
