Supervisor Neil Derry

For those that are wondering, I did get a response back from him. In reference to TAD, he indicated that Jim will be looking at the organizational structure of the county. Considering Neil has little or no experience with social services, I don’t think we can ask for more than that for now. I do believe that TAD needs to be a priority for the new Ethics Commission.

From Assembly Person Wilmer Amina Carter . . .

I’ll try to put all the links and pictures in tonight or tomorrow, but for now here is the message.

December 2008 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

The holidays are approaching and the election of a new President of the United States is ringing in a season of hope.

President-elect Barack Obama represents the hope and change many of us in the Inland Empire need at this time. There has been a significant increase in unemployment, a drop in manufacturing and a wave of foreclosures. The economy is not getting better any time soon.

Furloughs and Layoffs

We’ve been talking about this on the blog since before the contract was settled. I received another phone call from someone tonight who is very involved with SBPEA claiming that Chicken Man is negotiating with the county for a four-day, eight-hour-a-day work week. In other words, we would all have our pay cut by 16 hours a pay period. For someone making $20 an hour, that would be a $320 cut per paycheck.

Full case sanctions

Someone told me tonight that John and Ken were talking about full-case sanctions or kicking time-out individuals off of welfare. I guess they claimed what we are doing in this county (and much of the state) to be illegal. Well, duh!!! Geez, what have we been trying to tell everyone?

Getting rid of chicken man versus bringing in a new union

I thought I would address this suggestion as a separate post. Those who don’t know what I’m talking about can read the comments on the Chicken Man/AFL-CIO post.

The Press-Enterprise

Inland car dealer Mark A. Leggio, a major donor to Republican candidates, has agreed to pay the state $150,000 to settle a “repeated pattern of violations” of campaign-finance laws.

The agreement with the state Fair Political Practices Commission does not address a criminal case in San Bernardino County alleging that Leggio, of Upland, broke campaign-finance rules and other laws.

From the Sun: San Bernardino County votes on contract to acquire foreclosed homes

By Jason Pesick on December 1, 2008 6:05 PM
The Board of Supervisors rolled out another program today aimed at stemming the foreclosure crisis in San Bernardino County.

“Most likely, we’re probably looking at another wave of foreclosures that are going to happen in the next few years as people recognize they are upside down in their equity,” said Supervisor Paul Biane.

Neil Derry was not often in the county’s political spotlight during his seven years on the San Bernardino City Council, but he stepped into a larger role by ousting longtime Supervisor Dennis Hansberger in the June 3 election.

Not sure what I was thinking of!

I’m not going to even go back and read my posts to see what I said, other than I know that I wrote about having a really big issue with the Boys of the Board not allowing Josie Gonzales her rightful place as Vice Chairman. As far as I know that decision was not made today and I’m not sure why I had it in my head it would be. I’ll have to look at the County Charter to see when it is supposed to happen. I’m not sure if it is December or January. It’s been a really long time since I’ve cared about such things.
