Decertification Update

I’ve been only able to get ahold of two of the units. Both are getting close but I don’t believe can get the signatures in time. That combined with some problems with the effort means that we are assuming that it will NOT take place. However, the decertication effort is far from dead. Basically, we will wait for the vote on Monday. If the contracts do not pass we will have 30 days to decertify, which means we can do so with a regular union leading the charge, and in a more organized manner. If the units ratify the contracts, then we will start the petition to end modified agency shop as soon as the contracts are ratified by the Board of Supervisors. We will be doing so for T&I, Administrative Services, Clerical, CLT and Professional. By ending modified agency shop it means that you will be able to resign from SBPEA no matter what SBPEA or the county has to say about it.

The DFR/ULP is still on and we expect it to be filed before the vote count.

Finally, we are getting a lot of reports that county managers and supervisors are being used to intimidate employees from signing the recall petitions. We really need employees to let us know if this has happened to them.

I have my petition, but was told that I cannot fax it in, and have not heard back from the T&I contact. What now?

In my department everybody is scared to death they will get fired if they sign the petition. Who is behind this fear?

Are there any guarantees that the votes won’t be tampered with?

You cant fax it from work but you can fax it from home if you have that capability. Do you have a scanner (at home)? We are trying to abide by the rules so no one gets reprimanded. I am from the clerical unit

There are no guarantees, however if many of us attend and observe the vote, we may decrease the potential for tampering.

This is to all T&I employees for WVDC. Please be advised and be careful with who and what you say. I was spoken to today by several members of our commanding staff who were trying to get to the bottom of who started the drive at our location. There were a lot of questions regarding where we can conduct our business. If anyone has any of the regulations regarding the when and where our business can be conducted please let me know.

Also note that from what I gathered it was a fellow employee making the complaint.

Ok I’m home now and more free to type. I’m a little upset. Yesterday my supervisor asked me about the petition and explained to me what I was and wasn’t allowed to do. He had already cleared this thru our commanding officer. Later in the evening I was confronted by a different supervisor as well as a Lieutenant and told that I was not allowed to do what had been previously ok’d. The problem that I have is that a negotiator for the clerical unit works in our admin and closely connected to much of our commanding staff, I’m sure that she’s the one doing a lot of the complaining. Yet nothing was done when I voiced a complain about her behavior. It feels as if though our commanding staff is continuing their practice of treating us like second hand citizens.

Is there a tally of the signatures for decertification yet?
