When I first heard about this bill some weeks ago from Anthony Adams, he labeled it as another “nanny bill.” For once I had to agree. I didn’t give it much thought again until Barb Stanton started talking about it. As I give it more thought, I’m not sure how I feel about it. Here is the text:
AB 2233, as introduced, Maze. Vehicles: transportation of animals.
(1) Existing law prohibits a person from driving a motor vehicle while transporting an animal in the back of the vehicle in a space intended for a load on the vehicle on a highway, unless specified conditions are met, with exceptions related to livestock, ranching, and farming. Under existing law, a violation of the Vehicle Code is an infraction, unless otherwise provided. This bill would prohibit a person from driving a motor vehicle while holding a live animal in his or her arm or arms, or upon his or her lap. Because this bill would create a new crime, it would impose a state-mandated local program.
(2) The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement.
This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason.
Last night I was at a stop light. I had four dogs in the truck who were quietly sitting in their seats looking out the windows. They notice the vehicle next to me where a small black Chihuahua is hanging out the driver’s side window. My dogs start barking at it. The Chihuahua almost jumps out the window. The driver had to catch it. Then she flips me off.
I am so tired of irresponsible pet owners, but do we need another law?
