I’ve started getting phone calls and emails from those who have friends on the bargaining team. What I’m hearing is very disturbing. It sounds like Bob Blough is trying to sell out employees once again, especially older employees, single employees, and retirees. Fortunately, from what I hear there are a couple team members calling him on his bluffs and miscalculations, but we all know how many are Kool-aid drinkers who will go with what he says and not analyze the information for themselves. Please spread the word that any contract proposal needs to be looked at carefully and employees should not accept SBPEA’s lies as truth again this year as has been done in the past.
Remember, you were GUARANTEED a five percent PER YEAR contract plus increased health coverage and longevity pay if the dues increase was passed. Mitzelfelt, Biane, Hansberger, Ovitt and Gonzales have all received sizeable contributions, TAKEN FROM YOUR PAYCHECKS, with a total of $50,000 to be given to each supervisor already authorized by the SBPEA Board of Directors in order to assure that you get the contract you were promised by Bob Blough and the SBPEA Board of Directors when the dues increase passed.
Also remember, despite claims of doom and gloom by SBPEA, if no contract is agreed upon, it is possible that SBPEA can be decertified as the union for San Bernardino County employees and a new union of your choice be brought in to do our bargaining for us. STOP SETTLING FOR A UNION THAT IS IN BED WITH COUNTY MANAGEMENT. SBCo. employees deserve a union that is more interested in serving county employees than in working for Mark Uffer, Brad Mitzelfelt, Paul Biane, Dennis Hansberger, Gary Ovitt, and Josie Gonzales. They do not pay dues to SBPEA but they received part of your paycheck from SBPEA. What do you receive from SBPEA.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackYou are either misinformed or intentionally misstating what has occurred. The bargaining team has established their expectations and Bob Blough has been doing a good job trying to get us there. The anger should be directed at the County, not at SBPEA. No one else would be doing any better than SBPEA is at this point. No one on this bargaining team is selling anyone out. It isn’t SBPEA that is claiming doom and gloom - read the newspapers!
Which is it? Should we direct our anger towards the County or towards the newspapers? No one else would be doing a better job? Really? We know there are a lot of negotiators with good intentions but even they are beginning to realize unlike you, that we got sold out on the dues increase and are about to get sold out again. They want us to blindly march to the BOS to say what? That we all want a raise? How much? Why would I follow the association when no one can even officially tell me what the expecations are? Are you a professional negotiator? Do you really believe that you and Bob and your team members are knowledgable enough to NEGOTIATE a decent contract for us? SBPEA hasn’t let us down though because no one really expects anything out of you. Most of us are hoping that our contract expires just so that we can get SBPEA out. Many employees are even willing to pay higher dues.
What is it that we are supposed to be angry about? The fact that the County has so little respect for you as an organization that it fails to respond to you? What does that say? We pay our dues for SBPEA to represent us! It is SBPEA’s job to defend hardworking County employees to the newspapers. Are you confirming the information on the flex benefit plan? If not, why should we be angry? Please help me to understand. Apparently, I am just a confused, misinformed, simple minded employee and I would LOVE it if you could explain it to me.
Stuff like this didn’t happen when I ran the unions.
I would be glad to help you County employees in your struggle with SBPEA and the County but, unfortunetly I am buried 6 feet under the end zone of Giants stadium in New Jersey at the momment.
However, my boy James P. Hoffa, the current president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, may be of some help …

It is my understanding that Bob Blough has proposed that we agree to eliminate the flexible spending account in exchange for an hourly rate increase. That is a proposition that will harm me until the day that I die. By paying for insurance and eliminating the flexible spending account they will in effect reduce my annual retirement pay by at least $2000 a year. This is the kind of BS that Bob pushes on employees on behalf of the Board of Supervisors and Mark Uffer. The all know most county employees are too stupid to fully comprehend what they are doing. The county would have to give us a least a 10% raise the first year alone just to break even from this cocamanie idea. Does anyone wonder why Brad Mitzelfelt and the other Board members work so closely with SBPEA. This contract will allow them to tell voters how much they save and county employees will look like fools for agreeing to it.
Well said!
This is what we all predicted would happen. Do I remember a SBPEA board member who told us that we would have to give up our flexible benefit plan this time around? Paula? Looks to me like she knew the deal had already been cut. Wasn’t there an e-mail circulated that showed Bob Blough in colustion with Bob Windle. I will check my old email to see if that is correct.
I called a friend on the bargaining team to verify that Bob Blow wants to give away our flexible spending account and was told that is true. I WILL SUPPORT ANY OTHER UNION YOU WANT TO BRING IN!@!@!@!@
This is almost what is going around my office. I guess the county wants to do with the Flexible Benefit Plan and Bob has agreed to it but can’t sell all the negotiting team on it. Also heard 5% for first year and nothing after.
The most insulting thing about this is that they think we are all stupid enough to agree to it. They actually thought they could slip such a ridiculous, idiotic give away right by employees, and members of the negotiating team and no one would say a word? YES! They are counting on the same STUPIDITY that passed the last contract!
Um, by the way where did bargaining team member go? Hey, at least we know Paula is still reading the blog! LOL.
If you’re talking about the comment from “another bargaining team member,” my spam protection captured it. Basically, if you put a link or a bad word in a post, the spam protection will remove the comment. It then tells me that I have comments to moderate. Between viagra, body part enhancement, hot singles, etc., there is a lot to moderate. I simply hit the delete key that deletes them all at once.
On the last blog I used to go through them and allow the non-viagra, etc. posts but I’m not going to waste my time this time around. SBPEA has plenty of money to create their own blog. If they don’t know how to behave on mine, then I guess their posts won’t be up for long.
Last time I had them try to get stuff through with four-letter words in foreign languages, etc. I would clean them up. This time I’m deleting them. They can either be civil or they can go away.
okay… NO DIRTY WORDS THIS TIME. I WILL SEE IF YOU LEAVE MY OPINION POSTED
Where do you come up with this crap? I doubt it is from bargaining team members. No one is being sold out.
You listen to people who know little and tell all. There is progress being made, slow but still progress.
You are still just upset you were thrown out of the association.
All you can do is sit at home and stir stuff up. For everyone’s sake, find something to do.
I find it amazing how you cannot do your job, yet you can be a rape crisis counselor, go to church, travel, etc. Guess you must have really messed in your work nest huh?
So which is it? I sit at home and stir stuff up or I am out working in the community doing things.
Some of us prefer trying to get our minds off of our problems by helping others while some of you think the only way to do that is to hit the booze and pop the pills. I prefer my way over yours but to each his own.
I remember sitting in MO talking to Nataly {?} and her trying to convince me that if the dues increase passed we would get 5% each year and that our benefits would go up. I told her I was giving my proxy to someone voting no. When the dues increase passed with SBPEA changing votes I decided not to fight it like others because at least we would have large raises and better benefits. I knew she could was lying.
No problem!! I’ll take 5% for the first year, as long as we sign a 1-year contract!
Mr Blow should be T-boned. I doubt that he has been to a dentist lately, but I wonder what kind of health insurance he has…… I’m betting it is far better than my “options”.
