Yesterday’s Daily Press article and the comments made about it highlight just how much our country needs more prayer. As I read the blogs of the Daily Press I am amazed at just how much anger and hatred people have for their fellow man. I have to say I was dismayed at the comments made by the pastor quoted in the article.
I always wonder why some Christians are so insecure about their beliefs that they feel threatened when those of other beliefs are included. Instead they should look at such events as a chance to show Christ’s love through their deeds, rather than showing condemnation through their words.
I am glad that Apple Valley has decided to celebrate the National Day of Prayer this year. Our town leaders certainly need to be prayed for. Victorville is also celebrating the day. I haven’t heard about Hesperia or Adelanto. It does not appear that the County of San Bernardino is celebrating it and heaven only knows how badly SB County officials need our prayers that the become less corrupt and be given more integrity.
The church I’m sort of attending regularly now, Victorville First Assembly of God, is participating not only in the day of prayer at the Victorville City Hall, but is also having a special prayer service at 7 p.m. I’m on call that evening for the Rape Crisis Hotline so I’m hoping no one is sexually assaulted so that I get to attend. (I hope no one is sexually assaulted anyway.)
I hope more churches do that as this country really needs prayer. I don’t know about anyone else, but things sure seem bleak between the housing crisis, gasoline prices, the labor market, etc. It really feels like we’re headed toward a significant recession.
And a reminder for anyone who might be interested, Victorville First Assembly of God is also presenting Dave Roever on May 4, 2008 at 6 p.m. He is an excellent speaker with a message that combines humor, patriotism and hope. Dave is a Vietnam vet who was horribly disfigured in the war. He will talk about his healing process, spiritually, mentally and physically. He has since journeyed back to Vietnam and he only recently received his Purple Heart. He is worth a couple hours of your time.
