SBPEA gives more of your money to Bill Postmus

According to the Secretary of State, SBPEA gave the Committee to Elect Bill Postmus $2500 on February 14, 2008. He’s already been elected! What does he need another $2500 out of your paychecks for?

Campaign contributions are given and received at all times, not just three or six months before an election.

I realize that but there is no justification whatsoever to be contributing to Bill Postmus at this time.

That’s a different argument. You seemed to be commenting on the timing of the contribution (”He’s already been elected!”), not on its appropriateness (Potential example: “He’s a crook! Why give him money?”).

And, for what it’s worth, that contribution was made on February 14– Before this DA investigation was made public.

Okay, my intent was to simply do a short post to let county employees know where their union dues are going. Since you insist, here is my total argument.

First, the election is over. Postmus raised and spent an obscene amount of money to win a position that pays relatively little in comparison. He won by a very small percentage. I believe he outspent his opponent 10-1. He will not be up for election again for three years. He doesn’t need county employees’ dues now for his next election in three years.

Postmus went in and fired long-term, well-respected county employees and replaced them with his friends who did not have the education, the credentials or the experience and who did not have to meet the hiring requirements that SBPEA members would have had to meet. How can a labor organization justify supporting someone who has treated their membership in this fashion?

Postmus is the county assessor. He does not make collective bargaining decisions, that is unless of course he still has a lot of influence with Mitzelfelt. If he does not influence collective bargaining then why would the labor union give him PAC money? It seems that money could be better spent bribing officials who actually make collective bargaining decisions. What benefits will SBPEA members receive from SBPEA donating their dues to Bill Postmus?
